Windows instructions (*XChat for Windows is a commercial (paid) product. See YChat (below) for the freeware version of XChat for Windows.)
- Spoiler:
- Download and install the official XChat for Windows client from http://xchat.org/
- When you first open XChat, you will be presented with the Network List. Edit your information, then click "Add". Type "Furnet".

- Click the "Edit" button. In the first box, click on "newserver/6667" and change it to "irc.furnet.org/6667". In the "Favorite Channels" box, type "#BrokenPlotDevice". Check the "Auto Connect" box. Click "Close" to save the settings.

- Check the "Skip Network List" box and click "Connect".
- Congrats! You're now connected to the chatroom. That was easy, wasn't it?

- Download and install the official XChat for Windows client from http://xchat.org/
OSX instructions

- Download XChat Aqua from http://sourceforge.net/projects/xchataqua/
- Drag the XChat Aqua folder into your Applications folder.

- Inside the XChat Aqua folder, you will find the XChat Aqua app. Double-click on that to run it (or drag the App to your Dock and launch from there.)

- The first time you run XChat Aqua, you will be presented with the Server List. Uncheck the "Show server list" box. Edit your information, then click the "+" button. Type "Furnet".

- Click on "Show Details". Change "NewServer" to "irc.furnet.org". Under "Port", put "6667".

- Under "Connect Options", check the box to auto-connect at launch.

- Under "On Join", click the "+" underneath "Join Channels". Type "#BrokenPlotDevice".

- Back in the main Server List window, click on "Connect".
- Congrats! You're now connected to the chatroom. That was easy, wasn't it?

- Download XChat Aqua from http://sourceforge.net/projects/xchataqua/
Linux instructions

- These instructions are for Ubuntu 9.10 only. If you'd like to see another Linux distribution, let me know!
- Open up a Terminal window and enter in the command "sudo apt-get install -y xchat" (without the quotes). Type in your password when prompted.

- When you first open XChat, you will be presented with the Network List. Edit your information, then click "Add". Type "Furnet".

- Click the "Edit" button. In the first box, click on "newserver/6667" and change it to "irc.furnet.org/6667". In the "Favorite Channels" box, type "#BrokenPlotDevice".

- Check the "Auto Connect" box. Click "Close" to save the settings.
- Check the "Skip Network List" box and click "Connect".

- During installation, make sure to uncheck the System Tray Icon (as XChat has its own icon) and any of the scripting libraries.

- When you first open XChat, you will be presented with the Network List. Edit your information, then click "Add". Type "Furnet".
