Admit it, you clicked on this just to see what was NSFW.
Well, sorry to disappoint (or not), but I was thinking about the psychology of NSFW.
I had a discussion with a few of my friends about people on t3h intrawebz clicking on things just because they aren't 'safe for work'. No other reason or motivation. That got me to thinking: why is there such a fascination with taboo subjects, especially on the internet? Despite songs and slogans to the contrary, the internet is not solely for porn, yet it is probably a good guess that more than 50% of the internet is used for NSFW purposes.
Why do we want what we can't have? Why do we want what we shouldn't want? Just by labeling something NSFW will guarantee that more people will look at it, despite the actual content. Note: I'm not limiting the NSFW label to just porn, I include the ultraviolent and anything else you could care to name that falls under NSFW.
Thoughts?
