I like peppermint flavored hot chocolate; you just dip a candy cane in the cocoa while it's still hot and use it as a stir stick. It will melt and flavor the chocolate. Once it gets down to a nub though you have to finish stirring with a spoon, or you'll have mint globs at the bottom of your cup when your done. Never had it in coffee though, but I imagine it would have a similar effect.
This is also the only reason I would ever consider getting candy canes. Normally not a fan of peppermint myself, but for some reason it goes REALLY well with chocolate.
