That teapot even has its own Wikipedia page, at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell's_teapot ; if I ever get a chance to launch anything in orbit, I plan on naming it after it.
That teapot is why, a couple of years ago, I stopped calling myself an agnostic and started calling myself an atheist. Of course, I'm /also/ an athorist and aleprechaunist, as well as a rationalist, skeptic, freethinker, empiricist, scientist, materialist, naturalist, secular humanist, agnostic gnostic, libertarian monarchist, neo-objectivist, teetotaler, playtester, licensed amateur radio operator, ordained minister of the First Church of Atheism, and Lord of the Rose, and have pretty much given up on using any single word to fully describe myself safe for one: "DataPacRat".

Re: The Personal Wisdom Thread!!!
Well, I thought the declaring of who we were was rather odd, so I decided to combine it with a quote!
Remember, when you're in a jam, just say to yourself, "I'm Batman" and all will be over soon. For better or worse.
Deluding yourself is no good.
Every once in a while imagine everything upside down. Or if you're already upside down, imagine in downside up.

But what if I hate batman? I think that would make things a lot worse. ...I think if I were Batman, I would do the world a favor and kill myself. ....I really hate Batman....

I'd also like to discuss your religious quotes in a separate thread if possible.

A little PG-13 but...Good sex is always fun, but good fun is not always sex.
Grab what you need and go.
Shii, I dunno about that, it seems a bit risky.

I agree with Winds. Religion can cause some serious trouble between those who "discuss" it.

Re: The Personal Wisdom Thread!!!
wow, for a biblical quote that's a pretty zen sentiment. I like it
how about some more zen-y existential Me wisdom?
"It is what it is"
"If you don't like it, change it. If you can't change it, learn to live with it"
"Jerks are self defeating. By being jerks, they automatically invalidate themselves. 'Cause, really, who cares what they think?" (if you believe this, you'll never be insulted again. Magical!)

"Remember, it's not the size of the boat that matters, but the motion of the ocean. Then again, it's pretty damn hard to cross the ocean in a dingy."
I don't even remember who I'm quoting, but it makes me laugh.

Re: The Personal Wisdom Thread!!!
"In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky.
“I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied.
“Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky.
“I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes.
“Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened."

I seen it in action, it's nigh unstoppable. Though it can be easily directed for your own use or amusement.

That's why it should never be underestimated.

That is even more true. It's worse when it's in large groups.

Re: The Personal Wisdom Thread!!!
I've been working on this formula for a couple years now that works off of the assumption that intelligence is inversely proportional to the amount of people you're around. Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted the damn thing off of my calculator and it was complicated enough I can't remember it...
