How magic works Empty How magic works

In Broken Plot Device at least.

From what I can tell, Magic is channeled through chinks in reality. However, thee chinks might be large enough to allow monstrosities in, so some of them need mystical filters (i.e. Torgie) to purify the energy. Said energy is then stored until needed via occult means.

    That's my theory anyway.

Hmm... it's food for thought. I know that magic is in BPD because essentially Liz wanted it there, no other reason. I think she actually wrote somewhere that there was no rhyme or reason behind it.

Anyways! I'm more interested in how a person in the BPD universe becomes magical. Is there a course that I can sign up for? Or do I have to just be born with it?

You know, (back on topic) how does Inix perform her spells? I've seen no symbols, arcane babbling, hand gestures, nothin'. Magic operates on sheer will power?

Well she is a dragon. Dragon magic has many different facets and forms it's like nailing Jell-O to a tree. The way she does it could be entirely mental.

It doesn't count if it's still in the box.

I think also, the idea of Torgie could be the same concept as a basic sort of magic seal. You break the seal, the magic gets loose. Kind of like in the ImaginationLand episodes of South Park. They had a wall to separate all the evil creatures from the good. The wall got blown up, all the evil creatures were free. Sunny trying to nail a bow tie to him would run the risk of breaking him.

Well, Torgie isn't really like a seal, right? He's actually a magical creature that doesn't happen to move very often. Or am I misremembering it?

    GAH I'm so confused.

No, he's a seal. He's a wooden frog. If he was alive, I don't think he would have taken lightly to having something nailed to him. Inix probably wouldn't need someone to babysit Sunny if he were alive.

I still think he's a filter. They just call him a seal because the ancient politicians didn't get it and the ancient wizards were to annoyed to do anything.

No one in the comic mentioned wizards or politicians. Inix calls him both an "anchor" and a "seal" in one of the comics.

    Multi-purpose utility?

Oh I get it! The source of magic tends to move around quite a bit unless anchored! Which would explain Torgie's size.

Pretty much. Inix said that if the anchor was removed or seal broken, the dark forces would be able to move freely and unchecked.

Which makes the COLST DOOR the filter! I see now.

    You mean the closet door.

I don't know if it's a "filter" persay, being as Inix is there because it's her job to keep the magic at bay. That and she's said the magic is behind the door. I'd like to get Liz's input on this.
